How to use JSON to CSV

  1. Paste a JSON arrayUse an array of flat objects, such as [{"name":"Sam","count":2}]. Nested objects and arrays inside rows must be flattened first.
  2. Choose separator and protectionSelect comma, semicolon or tab. Leave formula protection on when opening unfamiliar text in spreadsheet software.
  3. Create and download CSVProcess the JSON and check the columns. Fields are quoted where required, and the complete table is available in the CSV download.

JSON to CSV questions

Can I convert nested JSON to CSV?

This tool supports flat objects only. Nested objects and arrays are rejected because a flat CSV table has no single unambiguous representation for them. Flatten the data first.

What happens when objects have different fields?

Columns are collected from keys across all rows. Missing values and null values become empty cells. Column order follows the order in which keys are first encountered.

What does formula protection do?

It prefixes formula-like strings with an apostrophe so spreadsheet programs are less likely to interpret them as formulas. This intentionally changes those strings; disable it only for trusted data when exact text is required.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your file contents are processed locally in your browser. Website delivery and optional usage statistics are separate; see the privacy notice.

What are the file and output limits?

Up to 5 MiB of text. Text output is capped at 20 MiB. JSON nesting is limited to 128 levels. CSV tables support up to 50,000 rows, 1,000 columns and 500,000 cells.
